About the school

This school has permanently closed. See the schools that are still open →

TMST was the sister institution to the Thai Massage School of Chiang Mai, founded in 2002 by the same principals, Jan Chaithavuthi and Kanchanoo Muangsiri, one year after TMC itself. It is frequently listed as a Bangkok school in directories and guides, and prospective students still search for it under that description, which is why it is documented here. The two schools operated as a single organisation with a shared curriculum, shared Government Certified Teacher affiliation programme and shared accreditation, and the widely quoted figure of roughly 20,000 students from over 100 countries between 2002 and 2018 refers to both together. The organisation's teaching purpose was explicitly preservationist and standardising - to protect what its founders called the integrity of Thai massage against commercial dilution - and its influence on how the subject is structured and documented, particularly through its textbooks, outlasts its operations. Both schools closed in April 2022 as a consequence of the pandemic.
